English Professor's New Book Examines Novel's Ongoing Appeal

WSU English professor Michael Wutz’s new book, “Enduring Words—Literary Narrative in a Changing Media Ecology,” examines how the novel has evolved and continues to be relevant even as many other media have come into existence and changed how society is entertained/engaged in today's digital world. In the book, published this fall by the University of Alabama Press, Wutz traces how literary narratives in the late 19th and early 20th century have reacted to the post-print media of photography, the phonograph, and film, and how they have carved out a distinct niche for themselves in an increasingly visual and digital age.

The WSU Bookstore on the Ogden campus will hold a reception and book signing on Nov. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m., where Wutz will talk informally about his latest work.
