10th Annual Wildcat Block Party to Kick Off Year

OGDEN, Utah — The  annual Weber State University Wildcat Block Party on Aug. 29 will draw thousands to an outdoor festival that celebrates WSU and highlights the many departments, programs and clubs available on and around campus.

Campus organizations will use this year’s theme, “Celebrate Weber State,” to create their booths and compete for awards. The “Best of Show” winner will receive the “Silver Cat Bowl” trophy with the department name engraved for

“This year’s theme plays off the 125-year anniversary of Weber State,” said clubs and organizations coordinator Tara Peris. “Our idea is for every booth to contribute one reason to celebrate Weber State or one resource that is worthy of celebrating.”

The festivities will begin with the free President’s Purple Pancake Breakfast at 8:15 a.m., served by WSU administrators. Campus and community booths open at 8:30 a.m. Sponsored activities are scheduled throughout the day.

This year, the booths will be divided into categories such as academic departments, campus and community partners, commercial groups, and WSU clubs and organizations. More than 140 groups are expected to sponsor booths for the event.
The booths, food and fun will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Parking will be available on Harrison Boulevard and at the pay lot near the Ada Lindquist Plaza (duck pond).

“Of all the days in the school year, this is the one day that Weber State’s doors are literally wide open,” Peris said. “It is the one day that every office, every department, every club, every resource throws the doors wide open and everyone is excited to share various parts of campus. That is what is so fun about block party.”
