Pops Concert Celebrates 30 Years
OGDEN, Utah – Thousands of people are expected to flock to Weber State University to enjoy the Lindquist Family Symphony Pops and Fireworks, scheduled for July 13.
An event started by the Lindquist family of Ogden to bring the community together now attracts audiences of all ages from throughout the state for a spectacle of music and color. The annual celebration, in its 30th year, has become a longstanding tradition with Northern Utah families.
Sponsored by the Lindquist family, the event is facilitated by WSU. A 60-minute concert featuring the New American Symphony Orchestra will begin at 9 p.m. at the Ada Lindquist Plaza. The performance will include Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with a battery of 17 cannons. The concert will be followed by one of the largest fireworks displays in Utah and include background music by the orchestra. Residents throughout the state are invited to attend free of charge.
WSU will broadcast the concert live on KWCR 88.1 FM, the university’s radio station. The university also will provide food and beverage booths, first-aid stations, restroom facilities and recorded music until the concert begins.
Due to construction projects currently underway on campus, guests are asked to stay out of construction zones and use extra caution when walking along the unfinished surface of Dixon Drive.
On-campus parking is available but will be limited. Motorists can access the campus by using Edvalson Street, Skyline Drive, 4100 South, and Birch and Taylor avenues. Handicapped parking will be reserved in the A-1 lot north of the plaza area. Concert-goers traveling in motor homes or larger vehicles are encouraged to park on the east side of campus near Stewart Stadium. Additional parking will be available at the Dee Events Center.
In an effort to minimize damage to the grounds, no blankets, chairs or saving of space will be permitted until after 6 p.m. Saturday, July 12. Anything placed on the lawn prior to that time will be removed. No tarps are allowed. Guests should refrain from using stakes or tent pegs to secure their ground coverings. No personal fireworks of any kind will be allowed on campus. Following the event, spectators are asked to clean up their area and drive with courtesy and caution.
