Academic Affairs Announces New Administrators

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State University Board of Trustees approved the appointment of two new administrators in the division of Academic Affairs today at its monthly meeting.

Ryan Thomas was confirmed as associate provost and dean of undergraduate studies, while Bruce Davis was approved as a vice provost.

Thomas, who has more than 20 years experience in higher education administration, comes to Weber State University from the College of Eastern Utah, where he served as the college's president for the past seven years. At WSU he will oversee the learning outcomes assessment program, institutional accreditation, development of new academic programs and the Center for Community Engagement. He also will administer the honors, bachelor of integrated studies, undergraduate research and teaching and learning forum programs. His approval concludes an extensive search to fill the position.

"Ryan brings a strong set of skills to this position," said Michael Vaughan, WSU provost. "His experience in the highest levels of higher education administration will bring effective leadership to WSU's undergraduate programs."

In another administrative search, Davis was named a vice provost. Davis, who has served as the director of the Weber State University Davis campus since July 1999, will now manage the Division of Continuing Education and career and technical education, while continuing to be responsible for WSU Davis. In his new role, he will direct the program offerings at a growing number of locations, while maintaining and cultivating relationships with charter schools that partner with WSU. Davis also has taught business courses throughout his time at WSU and was a finalist for the Crystal Crest Master Teacher Award this year.

"Bruce's background in business and education make him an ideal fit for this position," Vaughan said. "His community involvement provides both the experience and connections needed to foster existing, and form new, partnerships in the communities WSU serves."

Both appointments are effective immediately.
