WSU Plans to ‘Make a Difference’ in Ogden

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University staff, students, faculty and community members are invited to get involved by getting their hands dirty.

The Community Involvement Center (CIC) is hosting WSU Make a Difference Day in Ogden, May 9 beginning at 9 a.m.

Groups will be involved in service at three locations serving multiple organizations.

Junior League of Ogden, Oasis Community Garden (2445 Monroe Blvd., Ogden)
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers will plant, spread bark, mulch, till garden plots and paint sheds and benches. Those interested should wear close-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty.

Bonneville Elementary School (490 Gramercy Ave., Ogden)
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. teams will remove gravel and replace it with mulch and flowers as well as plant a fruit and vegetable garden. Volunteers should wear close-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty.

Runners Bags (WSU Shepherd Union Room 321)
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., groups will assemble 1,300 bags with items for runners in the Ogden Marathon, hosted by the GOAL Foundation, as well as runners in the annual Fly with the Flock 5k Fun Run, sponsored by the Ogden Nature Center.

The director of WSU’s Community Involvement Center, Brenda Kowalewski, said the center has sponsored two days of service each year for the past five years, but this day was specifically developed to attract WSU staff participation partly so staff members can model community stewardship for students.

“WSU Make a Difference in Ogden Day supports Ogden City’s efforts to do a little spring cleanup and beautify Ogden just prior to the Ogden marathon each year,” Kowalewski said. “This is a great way to provide a little extra tender love and care to our city and take pride in the place we live.”

Registration is requested by May 3. To sign up or for more information, email Annie Thompson at Include your project preference in the email. For more information about the day, visit
