CNN Reporter Shares Global Perspective with WSU

OGDEN, Utah – CNN reporter Lisa Ling will share her conviction about “The Importance of Keeping a Global Perspective” as part of Weber State University’s Convocations series, April 20 at noon in the Shepherd Union Wildcat Theater.

Ling has plenty of experience with the topic. She has travelled the world as a reporter, writer and host for various programs, including ABC’s “The View,”  “National Geographic Explorer” and the Oprah Winfrey Network. Currently she hosts CNN’s documentary series “This Is Life.”

In 2014, Ling spent 12 days in Utah for her story “Unholy Addiction,” reporting on prescription drug abuse in the Mormon community.

As a reporter, Ling has investigated the drug war in Colombia, U.S. prisons, excessive shark fishing in Costa Rica, elephant poaching in Chad and political control in Nigeria.

“Lisa Ling’s topic appeals to a wide audience on campus and in the community,” said Corbin Wessman, WSU vice president of Student Involvement and Leadership. “She will help those who attend become more educated citizens of the world.”

Ling is co-author of “Mother, Daughter, Sister, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood” as well as an autobiography, “Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and the Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home,” that she co-authored with her sister Laura Ling.

Lisa also traveled to North Korea as part of a medical missionary group. Her trip was detailed in the documentary “Inside North Korea.”
