History Department to Host Prestigious National Meetings
OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State University Department of History will host the 75th annual meeting of the Society for Military History (SMH) April 17-19.
The theme of this year’s meeting, “The Military and Frontiers,” will highlight the military’s role in geographic, technological, political, social and other frontiers. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Atkinson will deliver the banquet address April 19. He will speak about his recently released book The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943-1944.
The meeting, which will be held at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center, will offer more than 50 sessions on various subjects relating to military history. More than 300 SMH members from around the world will attend the meeting, and more than 160 members will participate in the meeting’s various panels.

The SMH, which was established in 1933, now has a membership of 2,300, which includes many of the world’s most prominent scholars, historians, serving officers, policy makers and others interested in military history. The SMH publishes the Journal of Military History, which is the leading scholarly journal on military history.
