The Signpost Wins Awards at Journalism Convention

WSU's student newspaper The Signpost placed in five categories, including 2 first-place awards, at the Utah Press Association's winter convention in St. George, Utah, March 19.

Former assistant sports editor Kelly Maw won first place in the Best Sports Column category, while senior business reporter Scott Allen won first place for Best Feature Column. The Signpost also took home second place in Best General News Story, Best Front Page and Best In-House Promotion.

"What is particularly satisfying about these awards is that our students are competing against professional newspapers of similar size throughout Utah, so we know our students are prepared to enter the world of journalism," said Allison Barlow Hess, faculty advisor to The Signpost.
