Utah Musical Theatre to Hold Auditions

OGDEN, Utah – Utah Musical Theatre’s season is on the horizon, and
the company has announced auditions for this summer’s productions.

UMT, the professional summer stock theater in residence at Weber State University, will be presenting The Fantasticks, Honk!  and Annie Get Your Gun during the 2003 season.

Acting and singing auditions for these productions will be held February 21 & 22, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Val A. Browning Center on the WSU campus.  Those auditioning should report to rooms 210 & 211 to register. This is an open call.  There will be a sign-up posted one-hour prior to the audition start.   The casting call is open to the public, space is limited and those auditioning will be seen on a first come basis.

UMT’s new artistic and managing director, Bruce Cohen, says those auditioning should prepare two contrasting monologues, not exceeding five minutes combined and 16 bars of a song.  Cohen suggests talent become familiar with the shows to be cast and prepare an audition package that matches well.  An accompanist will be provided, however those auditioning may elect to bring taped accompaniment or sing a cappella.  Sheet music should be prepared appropriately as the accompanist will not transpose.  All those auditioning will need to supply a performance resume and headshot.  If a headshot is not available, a current photo will do (these cannot be returned and will become part of UMT's casting files).  The resume should detail any dance/movement experience and reference contacts.  There will be individually scheduled callback auditions specifically for dancers/movers.

“The shows this season are a fun mix.  We range from the intimacy of Fantasticks  to the bravado of Annie Get your Gun.  And Honk!  is a duck of an entirely different color.  There truly is something for everyone, young and old, male and female, and we always welcome non-traditional casting possibilities,” said Cohen.

UMT is also accepting resumes and materials for design, tech and backstage positions.  Resumes can be faxed to UMT at (810) 626-6749, or mailed to 1902 University Circle, Ogden 84408.

UMT will present Fantasticks June 13-28. Honk!  will be staged July 4-19, and Annie Get Your Gun  is scheduled to run Aug. 1-16.
