Mrs. Louenda H. Downs
A longtime public servant and education advocate, WSU Board of Trustees Vice Chair Louenda H. Downs joined the board in 2014. Downs is also a former former Davis County Commission chair.
Downs was elected to the Davis County Commission in 2006 after serving as partnership coordinator and assistant director of the Davis Education Foundation.
Downs, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Weber State, was born in Brigham City, Utah. She taught school for seven years in Davis School District and was then elected to serve eight years on the Davis Board of Education. Downs then took a partnership coordinator and assistant director position at the Davis Education Foundation. She has been a professional musician for more than 30 years.
Her tenure as an educator and education administrator has also been punctuated by service on education, active transportation, wildlife, ecological, community hospital, and health and human services boards. Downs is also a strong proponent of economic development and community planning.
Parents of two daughters and grandparents of six, Louenda and her husband reside in South Ogden. She and her husband served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2017-2019 in Auckland, New Zealand.
