Brad Mortensen became vice president for University Advancement in January 2007. In this position, he acts as the university's legislative liaison and oversees Alumni/Development Services, Alumni Relations, Development, Government Relations and Marketing & Communications. Mortensen first came to WSU in 2004 as associate vice president for Support and Government Relations.
Prior to working at WSU, Mortensen worked in the Utah System of Higher Education Office and in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget. Mortensen also worked as a fiscal analyst for the Arizona Joint Legislative Budget Committee and served as an associate for the National Center of Public Policy and Higher Education.
Mortensen completed his doctoral degree in educational leadership and policy at the University of Utah. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Utah State University.
