Assistant Professor of Horn
Dr. Huggard is excited to begin teaching at Weber State University in the fall of 2016. She is also the Professor of Horn at Utah State University and is an active music educator in her home studio located in North Ogden, UT. Previously she has taught horn at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey and BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho. Laura previously taught K-12 music education (choir, band, and strings) in both Idaho and New Jersey.
Dr. Huggard’s professional education includes two Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of Idaho; one in vocal/instrumental education and the other in horn performance. In addition, she earned the Master of Music Degree in May 2001 and the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in 2004 from Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts in horn performance.
Currently Laura plays principal horn in Chamber Orchestra Ogden, is section horn with the New American Philharmonic, and American Festival Orchestra and Chorus. Before relocating to Utah in 2013, Dr. Huggard enjoyed a professional career as a musician in New Jersey. During that time she performed French Horn and Natural Horn with many well known orchestras including the Albany Symphony, Garden State Philharmonic, The United States Coast Guard Band, Riverside Symphonia, Princeton Symphony, Princeton Pro Musica, The New Jersey Arts Collective, and New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra. Her most recent engagements outside of Utah, Idaho, and New Jersey have included performances in Valencia-Spain, New York City-NY, Philadelphia-PA, Cincinnati-OH, and Spokane-WA.
Her most accomplished recording are for the Naxos label: Nicholas Fagello’s Concerto Sinfonico for Saxophone Quartet, for Musica Omnia with Publick Musick: Bach Missae Breves, and numerous wind band recordings on the Mark Custom Label with the Rutgers Wind Ensemble. Laura appeared with Ray Charles and the Raylets at the Trenton War Memorial for a NJN Television broadcast and DVD in 2002.
