Studying Dental Hygiene at Weber State

Weber State’s dental hygiene major teaches students who love science and working with others the skills to work side-by-side with dentists and educate patients to practice healthy habits.

Dental Hygiene Highlights

As a dental hygiene major, you’ll gain experience working with the latest technology utilized by professionals in the field in the classroom and in WSU’s on-site dental clinic.

The program is involved with the American Dental Hygienists Association, with a nationally recognized active student chapter, and faculty who have served on national ADHA committees and boards.

Beyond the Classroom

While completing your bachelor’s degree, you’ll gain experience by working with patients and faculty at local clinics along with Weber State’s on-campus clinic.

You can study abroad in China to learn about the country’s culture, history and medical practices, or join another study abroad program.

Weber State’s ADHA student chapter give you opportunities to  meet your peers and participate in networking opportunities and events.

What You’ll Learn at Weber

You’ll learn the skills accepted as standards of care of dental hygienists, including how to perform a wide array of dental treatments, such as:

  • Dental X-rays
  • 3D CBCT imaging
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Periodontal therapy
  • Fluoride treatment
  • Diode laser treatment

What You Can Do after Weber

Graduates become dental hygienists at private and group dental practices, along with specialty practices such as periodontal, pedodontic and orthodontic clinics.

Additionally, they provide dental care in residential care facilities, schools and other settings.

With your bachelor’s degree, you’ll also be qualified to teach part-time in Weber State’s dental hygiene program, along with other dental hygiene programs.

Career & Salary Outlook

Recent Weber State dental hygiene graduates have earned an average starting salary of $33.75/hour. Our program has a 95% job placement rate within 4 months of graduation.
