Skills and Knowledge

Weber State University designed the MTax program in response to the increasing complexity of tax regulation for individuals and businesses.

Our students benefit from the in-depth study of the tax law applicable to individuals, partnerships, corporation and S corporations.

You will also learn tax research and communication techniques that enhance your ability to find answers to difficult tax questions—a skill that employers highly value. Moreover, the program offers electives covering other specific areas of taxation, including international taxation, real estate taxation, state and local taxation, exempt organizations, mergers and acquisitions, retirement plans and employee benefits.

The MTax degree prepares you for the intricacies of today’s taxation world.

In recent years, nearly 100% of our graduates are employed upon graduation.

Earning your MTax degree gives you better career opportunities in taxation and accounting and satisfies the education requirements of the Utah Certified Public Accountant Licensing Act to sit for the CPA exam.

Our graduates effectively pursue opportunities to work as vice presidents, CEOs and CFOs in a competitive business world. A challenging variety of prospects are available through the support of faculty, alumni and the John B. Goddard School of Business & Economics Career Center.

WSU’s MTax faculty has a great depth and breadth of knowledge in taxation. They have received degrees in taxation from New York University and Georgetown University, have published a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals and have authored textbooks in taxation.

Some of our courses are taught by highly qualified adjuncts who have considerable knowledge and expertise in the courses they teach.

MTax courses are conveniently taught at the WSU Davis Campus in the late afternoon and evening to better meet your schedule. This campus is conveniently located between Salt Lake City and Ogden. All courses are face-to-face and offered in the afternoons and evenings.

There is no required sequence of courses, so you can enter the program at the beginning of any semester.
