Rock Climbing Level 3 teaches intermediate climbers the skills necessary to safely participate in traditional lead climbing on their own. Class is taught at local Ogden climbing sites to familiarize students with climbing areas they can use after the course. Students will learn the skills necessary for traditional lead climbing including placing protection, rope system management, anchor construction, belaying from above and rappelling.
REC 1529 — Rock Climbing Level 3
Prerequisites & Equipment
Prior to participation in Rock Climbing Level 3, students must have either 1) completed Rock Climbing Level 2 or 2) know how to sport lead climb and belay and have instructor permission. Harnesses, climbing shoes, ropes and hardware are provided, though students may use their own equipment with instructor approval. Students must provide their own transportation, water, snacks, backpack and appropriate clothing for the weather.
Schedule & Location
Rock Climbing Level 3 is offered during the second block of the spring semester and the first block of the fall semester on one weekday afternoon for four hours. The course meets at various climbing sites along the East Bench of Ogden.
