REC 1528 — Rock Climbing Level 2

Description

Rock Climbing Level 2 teaches new climbers the skills necessary to safely participate in outdoor rock climbing on their own. Class is taught at local Ogden climbing sites to familiarize students with climbing areas they can use after the course. In this course, students expand their climbing movement repertoire, reinforce top rope and lead climbing and belaying skills in the outdoor setting and explore anchor construction and edge safety.

Prerequisites & Equipment

Prior to participation in Rock Climbing Level 2, students must have either 1) completed Rock Climbing Level 1 or 2) know how to top rope belay and have instructor permission. Harnesses, climbing shoes, ropes and hardware are provided, though students may use their own equipment with instructor approval. Students must provide their own transportation, water, snacks, backpack and appropriate clothing for the weather.

Schedule & Location

Rock Climbing Level 2 is offered during the second block of the spring semester and the first block of the fall semester on one weekday afternoon for four hours. Rock Climbing Level 2 is also offered during the summer as a single weekend course, from Friday to Sunday. The course meets at various climbing sites along the East Bench of Ogden.
