Fishing teaches novice students the basic skills necessary to successfully participate in fly fishing on their own. The class explores productive hatcheries in Utah within a few hours of Ogden. During the course students learn about rigging, fly selection, casting and landing a fish as well as basic river ecology and safety.

Prerequisites & Equipment
Students must be able to participate in physical activity. Camping equipment and basic rods and tippet are provided, though students are encouraged to use their own rod and tackle if they have them. Students must provide their own transportation, water, meals and appropriate clothing for the weather.
Schedule & Location
Fishing is offered during the second block of the spring semester, both blocks of summer and the first block of the fall. The course meets once at the start of each block for a classroom session and then includes a single weekend fishing, typically a trip from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Course sites vary but are located within a few hours of Ogden.
