English Department Writing and Digital Media Contests / Deadline Friday, March 3, 2023 @ 11:59 PM

Creative Writing Submission Guidelines: Poetry, Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction 

What to Include

  • 500 to 2000 words (for fiction and creative nonfiction)

  • 12 pt. font

  • Times New Roman or Garamond font

  • Double-spaced (for fiction and creative nonfiction)

  • In either PDF, Microsoft Word, or Open Office format.

  • Poets may submit up to three poems.

  • Must put "English Department Writing Contest" in the subject line.

  • Entries are open to all English majors and English minors.

  • The contest will be judged by a panel of English professors.

How to Submit

  • Email an electronic copy of your work to: ryanridge@weber.edu

  • Include "English Department Creative Writing Contest" in your email subject line

  • Include your name and preferred phone number in the body of the email. This information will be used to contact you if you are a finalist in the contest 

  • All submissions must be original and un-published

 

Who Can Submit

  • Entries are open to all English majors and English minors

  • The contest will be judged by a panel of WSU English professors

Contest Awards

Cash Prizes

  • 1st place in each category wins $150

  • 2nd place in each category wins $125

  • 3rd place in each category wins $100

 
 

PTW Submission Guidelines

 

What to Include

  • PTW Students can submit entries in two categories:

    • Digital Media PTW products, such as videos or social media posts/content related to PTW.

    • Traditional PTW products, such as reports, instructions, proposals, memos, etc.

How to Submit

  • Students may submit one entry for each category to: cscheidler@weber.edu

  • Include your name and preferred phone number in the body of the email. This information will be used to contact you if you are a finalist in the contest

  • All submissions must be original and un-published

  • 1st place in each category wins $150

  • 2nd place in each category wins $125

Composition Submission Guidelines

  • Research Paper:

    • Double-spaced

    • Times New Roman font

    • 12 pt. font

    • 4,000 words or less

What to Include

Students may submit entries in one category

  • Digital Documentaries:

    • Digital documentaries should be submitted in a program from the Adobe Suite

    • 3-5 Minutes in length

Literary Analysis Submission Guidelines

 

What to Include

Students may submit a literary analysis of any text—fiction, poetry, film, television, etc.

  • 2,000 to 4,000 words

  • 12 pt. font

  • Times New Roman or Garamond font

  • Double-spaced

  • .doc, .docx, or .pdf format accepted

How to Submit

  • Students may submit one entry to: jpanko@weber.edu
