Department of English Publications

Overview

The Weber State University English Department boasts an assortment of opportunities for students to showcase and publish their work. In addition, the department hosts the nation's only undergraduate literature conference, which brings together the world's leading writers for a week-long series of events. Best-selling writers work directly with undergraduate students on their work and share best practices.

Metaphor

Metaphor, created entirely by undergraduate students is an annual interdisciplinary journal that publishes art, fiction, non-fiction, academic papers, poetry, music and other artistic media. Metaphor's chief aim is to facilitate an environment that encourages students at Weber State University to express their ideas through literature and the arts.

Weber: The Contemporary West

Weber is one of the premier literary and cultural journals in the intermountain West.  It understands itself as a forum on contemporary issues and often centers on environmental and ecological topics that pertain to the region and beyond. The journal regularly features an art spread, poetry, essays, fiction, and interviews, and aims to produce a regional and global tapestry of voices and perspectives.  In recent years, the journal has also produced special focus issues on Lake Bonneville, Native American literature & culture, Chinese literature & culture, among others, and regularly features a subset on  the National Undergraduate Literature Conference [NULC].  In 2016,  Weber will publish two special issues: South Asian Literature (Spring/Summer 2016) and Emerging Global Voices (Fall 2016).  Other focus features in various planning stages are Writers Along the Wasatch (2017) and a special environmental issue (2018) in collaboration with the Rachel Carson Center at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany.
