2009 Bowling Club meetings will be held at Wildcat Lanes every Monday and Wednesday from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm. The first meeting will be on Wednesday, August 26th. Club officers will be elected and an information session will tell interested students about club membership and tryouts for the men's and women's intercollegiate teams.
Congratulations to the 2008-2009 WSU Bowling Team for a fine season...the team again qualified for Post season play, the USBC-Collegiate Sectionals held in Las Vegas March 13-16, 2009. Unfortunately the team failed to advance out of the field of 64 teams to the "striking" 16. The highlight of the event was when Dennis Kasprzak, WSU-Sophomore bowler, qualified to represent our sectional in the Individual Singles Championships to be held in Dallas in mid-May. In the 6-game singles event Dennis had a total of 1326 pins, a 221 average, to finish in 4th position, a full 50 pins ahead of 5th place. In this event the top 4 finishers from each of the four sectional sites, for both men and women, qualify for the individual national championships.
Dennis finished in 8th place in the nation at the Individual Championships...CONGRATS!!!
The competing members of the team for 2008-2009 were Brandon Funk (Sr.), Ronald Mosness (Sr.), William Jackson (Jr.), Dennis Kasprzak (So.), Travis Jackson (So.), Tyler Hess (Fr.), Matthew Pobieglo (So.), and Mark Mandell (Jr.).
Thanks to all who helped make the Food Drive on Martin Luther King, Civil Right's Day a tremendous success. We were able to donate 745 lbs. of food to the Northern Utah food bank. We had patrons bowl 518 games and gave away 84 hours of billiard time to those who brought food in to help. It was a tremendous success, thanks to the students and community patrons, and the support of the Signpost, KWCR Radio, and FM 100.3 for providing PSA support. Thanks also to Bill Fruth, Union Director, and Monika Rodie, Assoc. Director of the Union, who allowed us to keep the building open for this activity. Without their willingness to help, this could not have taken place.
Special Congratulations to our 9-Ball Billiard players who qualified for the National Collegiate 9-Ball Championships. The competition will be held in Indiana in July.
