The Value of An Internship

Internships provide students with the unique opportunity of stepping out of the classroom to enhance their education and gain experience in a real-world setting. Participating in internships at the local, state, and national levels allows students to gain valuable insight into the political system and public service, and get a head start on a successful career.

How to Apply

Applying for an internship only takes a few simple steps:

1. Take a look below at the internships opportunities available through the Walker Institute.

2. Download and print the Internship Application, fill it out, and return it to the Walker Institute in the Social Sciences building room 346.

3. In preparation for your interview, learn as much as you can about the internship for which you are applying, dress appropriately for a professional business setting, and be prepared to represent yourself, the Walker Institute, and Weber State University, as a great candidate for the position.

Congressman Bishop’s District Office is seeking a part-time intern immediately for the duration of the semester. The internship is designed be served part- time so that students can attend classes simultaneously. The pay is $1,000./month. This opportunity is valuable because it puts a student in contact with Congressman Bishop’s office and allows a student first hand exposure to legislative constituent service. The office is located in down town Ogden.

The Davis Chamber of Commerce has used a WSU intern during the legislative session to keep track of their "bill tracker." It's unpaid, a fairly low level of time commitment, but has a couple of solid deadlines for a work product that would have to be met every week.

The Eagle Forum is looking for volunteers to assist them in tracking bills of importance to them and in influencing policy during the Utah Legislative Session.
