WSU’s Wounded Warrior 8K Run to Assist Veterans

March 20, 2014

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State University campus community is invited to support injured veterans by participating in the second annual Wounded Warrior 8K run, March 29 at 9 a.m. starting at Stewart Stadium.
The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a national organization established by veterans in 2003, provides assistance, resources and rehabilitative services for injured veterans as they recover from the physical, social and emotional wounds inflicted by war and transition back to civilian life.

“Unfortunately, we’re always going to need organizations like Wounded Warrior,” said David Proctor, WSU’s ROTC recruiting operations officer and race organizer. “Many of these men and women have lost limbs or suffered traumatic brain injuries and need our help. Hosting this race isn’t just about money, it is important because we’re showing our brothers and sisters in the armed forces that Weber State and the community support them.”

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the race will go to WWP and its mission of raising awareness and aid for injured service members, and its additional effort to encourage injured veterans to help and support each other.

Last year’s run attracted 120 people. Proctor hopes to double the number of participants this year. Both individual and team entries are welcome.

“Generous donors will provide prizes for the winners as well as a raffle at the end of the race,” Proctor said. “It is going to be a great day, and we’re running for a great cause.”
