How to Start a FIRST Tech Challenge Team
1. Register & Review Your Resources!
-Find two adult mentors/coaches who will then complete the Youth Protection Program (YPP) at http://www.usfirst.org/aboutus/youth-protection-program. This screening is free and a SS# is not necessary (just check no SS# box).
-Create a profile in the Team Information Management System (TIMS) TIMS Portal: https://my.usfirst.org/ftc/tims/site.lasso
-Create a team in TIMS

2. Build Your Team
-You'll need up to 15 students to join your teams

-Find a meeting place
3. Budget Your Year
-FIRST Registration costs $275 annually. The kit of parts for a rookie team is approximately $1270 + shipping. The Utah FTC Championship costs $100. Additional costs for your team would be tranportation to events and extra parts that may be desired. If your team earns a place at the Super-Regional 2016 Championship in Oakland, CA, additional costs associated with travel, food, etc. will be required.

5. Participate in the Utah FTC Season Events!
-Kick-Off, Build Days, Scrimmages, Meets, Regional Competitions and the Utah FTC Championship are all waiting for your team to participate. Don't worry if your robot is still in the box at your first event, other teams are happy to help you get it moving.

6. Register for the Utah FIRST® Tech Challenge Championship Tournament and/or Southern Utah Regional Qualifier
The Utah FIRST Tech Challenge Championship Tournament will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Registration for the championship for Utah teams will open 1 November, 2015. You will need an authorization code to register. After 11/1, please email Utah FTC at UTFTC@weber.edu to get your authorization code. Out of state teams may register beginning Jan. 1, 2015, until full. The Utah FTC Championship will host up to 36 teams.
The Southern Utah FTC Regional Qualifier will be held February 6th at Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah. All Utah teams welcome to register, limited places available. More information will be available closer to the date.
