Matt Spencer, Executive Director
Matt Spencer became the Executive Director of Development at Weber State University in July of 2013. In this role he oversees a staff of development officers across WSU’s various colleges and functional areas, in conjunction with the University’s Dream 125 Comprehensive Campaign. From 2010-2013, Matt served as CEO of the Colorado Mountain College Foundation, managing a staff of ten and unprecedented fundraising efforts for the College’s network of eight campuses across the Central Rockies and Western Slope of Colorado; non-anomaly gift fundraising at CMC increased by 40% under Matt’s leadership. Previously, Matt was Vice President of Membership & Development at the Vail Valley Foundation from 2006 until 2010, managing a $1 million expense budget and leading that organization to overall philanthropic revenue increases of 17% over his three and a half year tenure. As Associate Director of Development for the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) from 2004-2006, Matt successfully directed a $25 million comprehensive campaign for the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management and served as a major gift officer for various other schools within the Daniels College. Matt came to the University of Denver from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation in Evanston, IL where he also served as Associate Director of Development, promoted from Director of Annual Giving and Foundation Services in which capacity he oversaw a $1.1 million annual fund and managed a portfolio of chapter advised funds. Matt has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies from Willamette University in Salem, OR; where he also played varsity football and spent time studying abroad at both the University of Havana (Havana, Cuba) and the University of San Francisco (Quito, Ecuador). Matt later earned a Master’s of Science in Sports Organization from Miami University in Oxford, OH. It was here that he first began his career in development as a graduate assistant within the Miami Red and White Club (the fundraising arm of the Miami Athletic Department). He also completed a Non-Profit Executive Education Series Course from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 2003. In 2011, Matt was named Most Outstanding Fundraising Professional by the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Colorado Chapter. Matt, his wife Natanee and his son Talon live in Ogden, UT.
