Pre-Medicine Why choose pre-medicine at WSU? What do medical doctors do? For more information, go to Career Services. What are the graduate study requirements? All medical doctors have completed four years of undergraduate pre-professional training, followed by four years training in a medical graduate program. There are two branches of medical training that result in different post graduate degrees. The degree program with which most people are familiar results in the conferring of a Doctorate in Medicine (MD); another branch of medicine results in a degree in Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Both programs include study of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, histology, cell biology and biochemistry. Before MDs and DOs are legally able to practice medicine, they must complete a residency program that varies in duration from three to five years. They may pursue residencies in, for example, family practice, pediatrics, medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, dermatology, radiology, etc. Approximately 75% of DOs choose to specialize in family practice, pediatrics or internal medicine. What classes should I take now? Where can I find out more about the program? Is there an application process for the pre-medicine program at WSU? |
