Scientific Computing with C++ and Fortran

Offered: Fall Semester annually. 

Prerequisites for this Course: Quantitative literacy at the level of Math 1060. 

This course is a prerequisite for: Physics 3300

 Credit Hours: Three.  Three hours of lecture per week.

 Example Texts: Computing for Scientists, Principles of Programming with Fortran 90 and C++ by Barlow and Barnett.  Fortran 90/95 for Scientists and Engineers by Chapman.  Problem Solving with C++ by Savitch

 Topics Covered: Working with editors and compilers. Basic Syntax of C++ and Fortran.  Data Types, Operations, and Expressions. Flow of Control.   Input/Output.

 Skills Emphasized: General programming practice.  All topics will be taught through examples relevant to the sciences.
