Important OUR Information & Quick Links

What is Undergraduate Research?

Undergraduate research includes scholarly and creative activities conducted by undergraduate students, in collaboration with mentors, for the purpose of examining, creating or sharing knowledge or works in ways consistent with practices within the discipline.

What's in it for Me?

Participating in undergraduate research increases your marketability for graduate and professional school and employment.  You have the opportunity to apply theories you learn in the classroom to "real world" problems and questions.  Your skill set improves - including critical thinking, problem solving and more.

How Undergraduate Research Benefits Students (video)

Participation Benefits

Grants & Fellowships

Grants and fellowships support student research and travel to disseminate results at professional meetings.  There are two grant deadlines per semester for research grants.

Symposiums & Celebration
[Show us what you've done]

The Undergraduate Research Symposium & Celebration is a campus-wide event that showcases undergraduate student research, scholarly and creative activities from each college at Weber State University.

ERGO
[Get published]

Ergo, the Weber State University Undergraduate Research Journal, is widely supported by faculty and staff in all of the colleges and departments on campus.  The journal allows students from all disciplines to circulate their unique research in a well-recognized publication.

Sponsored Conferences
[Travel far and wide]

We are proud to sponsor students to three specific conferences each year:  the National Conference of Undergraduate Research; the Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research; and Posters on the Hill in Washington, D.C.  These conferences allow students to present their results and see what peers are doing on a state and national level.

Resources for Research
[Get the hook-ups]

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) operates a large format printer to facilitate conference poster printing.  Students who are sponsorind in some way through the OUR, qualify to have their research posters printed at no cost.  Faculty and Staff who need to print posters for research conferences also qualify for free printing.

Students who are currently working on undergraduate research projects may now check-out a laptop to use.  The laptops are available for research and conference and presentation events.

Student Research Seminar Series
Learn how to perform, present, and disseminate research
as an undergraduate student by attending research sessions
presented by Weber State University professors
and faculty. Free lunch will be provided to participants at

Two undergraduate research students, Justin Anderson and Jason Davis, contacted us with an idea to present a series of topics to engage more students in research by teaching them how to preform, present, and disseminate and why it is beneficial.  With the help of WSU's great faculty, and the hard work of the students, we were able to put together six presentations on Undergraduate Research.
