Student Opportunities

There are a variety of ways students can get involved with the Nontraditional Student Center and Hourly Childcare. All students involved in one of the following ways are considered part of the Nontraditional Student Programming Board. A luncheon and certificate are awarded each year to our students for their dedication and support they give to the center and nontraditional students at WSU.

Peer Advisors
Our Peer Advisors are on staff to assist students in their transition into the university. They help students get involved on campus, find resources to meet personal and academic needs, assist with general computer questions in the lab, and plan and implement student programs. By offering respectful and friendly support to students with integrity and accountability, they maintain the Nontraditional Student Center’s commitment to focus on the students.

Pinnacle Honor Society
In the Pinnacle Honor Society, nontraditional students have the opportunity to shine through service projects and various leadership opportunities. This is a chance for nontraditional students to be recognized for their hard work and for their unique skills and accomplishments. There is a service project each semester and students have the opportunity to get involved or come up with ideas for service.

Epiphany Literary Journal
The Weber State University Nontraditional Student Literary Journal is a bi-annual publication that is uniquely geared toward nontraditional students.  It is a collection of fiction, flash fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and informative non-fiction articles that provide information to students about the various opportunities available to nontraditional students.  The staff members of Epiphany are student volunteers. The published submissions are all original works from undergraduate nontraditional students in all disciplines within the university.

It is the goal of Epiphany to provide a venue for talented, previously unknown nontraditional student writers to present their work with a reasonable degree of hope for publication.  Further, Epiphany hopes to provide an educational experience in real-world publication for the both the writers and student editors.

Parent Advisory Board
The Parent Advisory Board is made up of parents in the Nontraditional Student Center Hourly Childcare. The board serves as a venue for parents to express concerns, work with administators to see change, and have a clear understanding of the childcare center and its programming. It enourages parents to be informed. The board meets once a semester to discuss current issues facing parents who are moms and dads as well as students at WSU.

Student Senator / Area Council
Each year a senate seat is available for students to run for Nontraditional Student Senator. The senator works with the nontraditional students, the senate and advisors in Student Involvement and Leadership. the Senator is in charge of organizing the Area Council which meets to discuss issues on camus. The Senator then takes these issues to the Senate floor and votes according to input from the Area Council and contituancies.

Lessons in Leadership
The goal of the Lessons in Leadership program is to encourage increased leadership and involvement opportunities for Nontraditional, Women, International, Multicultural, & Disability students at Weber State University. By being involved in this program students will learn to appreciate diverse backgrounds, gain sound leadership competencies, connect with mentors on campus and in the community, and be prepared for a leadership experience at WSU.

Volunteers
Some of the events we plan each year requires volunteers. Students who volunteer for these events not only have the chance to participate with nontraditional students, they build a network for themselves to utilize in their other experiences at WSU.

Committees
Various opportunities are available each year to serve on committees in the Nontrad Center and with various other campus organizations. The committees provide team leadership skills, networking with students and the community and overall a great way to enhane your experience and be involved in an have a diverse experience at WSU. Some of the committees nontraditional students have been involved with include Opportunity Rocks Conference, Parent Conference, Area Council, Lessons in Leadership, Academy of Leadership, Student Fee Committee, etc.
