Peer Mentors

Misty Hearnesberger            Rachel Cox                  Kaneez Hassan

Our goal is to assist students with WSU services in a welcoming, friendly, and comfortable environment. Peer Mentors are hired on a part-time basis to assist nontrad students in navigating the campus services and programs, using the computers, and supporting the academic and social progress of all nontraditional students.

Peer Mentors are trained to act as peer advisors and discuss with their mentees issues, concerns, or difficulties the student is experiencing. These discusssioins will be conducted in a confidential manner. Peer Mentors are available throughout the day in the Nontrad Center.

Peer Mentor Goals include the following:

  • provide general support to mentees in their transition back to the claassroom; to provide emotional support to those returning to college;
  • assist in the educational success of nontrad students;
  • build a stronger network of nontraditional students committed to improving the educational climte at WSU;
  • improve retention and graduation rates of nontrad students.
