Bylaws

Article I - Name

The name of this association shall be Pinnacle Honor Society for Nontraditional Students, Weber State University Chapter (hereafter referred to as "Pinnacle").

The purpose of Pinnacle is to formally and nationally recognize qualifying Nontraditional students for their achievements. Activities and costs are to be kept to a minimum reflecting the unique needs of nontraditional students.

Article III - Relationship to Weber State University

Pinnacle is a member of the Association of Registered Organizations (ARO). Pinnacle is also affiliated with Weber State’s Nontraditional Student Programs and Services as a support to all Nontraditional students.

Article IV - Organizational Framework (back to top)

Section 1 - Officers: Officers of Pinnacle and their duties are the following:

 

A. President. The president shall preside at all meetings of Pinnacle, take the lead in organizing activities and meetings, designate responsibilities, be the official spokesperson, and represent Pinnacle at ARO Liaison meetings.

B. Vice-President. The vice-president shall assist the president and preside in the president’s absence, when called upon to do so.

C. Secretary/Treasurer. The secretary/treasurer position is a dual role which may be divided according to need.

The secretary shall keep minutes of all meetings, keep a current roster of members and be responsible for communicating information to all members of Pinnacle.

The treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining Pinnacle’s financial records, and allocating expenses as agreed upon by all officers.

D. Committee Chairs. Committee chairs shall organize activities and volunteers for specific events as agreed upon by Pinnacle’s officers.

Section 2 - Election of Officers:

A. Elections. All officers shall be elected at a special election meeting held near the end of Spring Semester and announced at least two weeks in advance. Nominations for president are taken, nominees are to give brief speeches, and members vote. This pattern is repeated for each of the positions in turn. If needed, the current officers will meet separately from the regular members and reach a mutual decision to break any ties.

B. Term of Office: New officers shall begin to serve immediately following elections and serve for the summer and the following academic year.

C. Vacancies: Should any vacancies arise, they are to be filled by appointment by the remaining officers. The newly appointed officer serves the balance of the term.

Section 3 - Officer requirements: Officers must be attending Weber State University at least half time (six or more credits), and have a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Officers must have been regular members of Pinnacle for at least two semesters.

Article V - Membership (back to top)

Section 1 - Eligibility: Students who apply to join Pinnacle must meet the following five requirements:

Be a nontraditional student. A nontraditional student is defined by one or more of the following conditions:

at least 25 years of age

married
a parent
disabled
a veteran

Be in Junior or Senior standing, according to credit hours.

Have a 3.0, or higher, grade point average.

Be involved in at least three campus and/or community    services; this may include family obligations

Pay $30 one-time membership fees

 Section 2 - Members: All members shall be accepted upon a screening by Pinnacle Officers. Applicants who pass screening and have paid their membership dues shall be considered members.Article VI - Faculty Advisor

The coordinator of Nontraditional Student Programs shall serve as Pinnacle advisor. The advisor shall sign paperwork and be a resource to Pinnacle.

Article VII - Finances (back to top)

Section 1 - Dues: All members will pay a one-time membership fee of $30 at the time they apply for membership. Applicants will not be accepted unless they have paid their membership fee.

Section 2 - Disbursal of Funds: Upon payment of the membership fee, members shall receive a membership certificate and Pinnacle pin. The Weber State Chapter retains $10 of each fee paid for operation costs, advertising, and Pinnacle activities. Officers will each receive a graduation medallion paid for by the Weber State Chapter of Pinnacle. Members who wish to have a graduation medallion may purchase one from the Nontraditional Student Center.

Section 3 - Fund Raisers: Funds raised by fund raisers shall have a specific purpose; for example: scholarships, membership fee waivers, or other service related activities.

Amendments to these bylaws must be submitted in writing to the president of Pinnacle. A 2/3 vote is required to amend these bylaws
