COURSE: AT 4990, Senior Seminar
CREDIT: One (1) Semester Hour
PREREQUISITES: Senior Standing
CLASS SCHEDULE: One 50-minute seminar session per week (10 only)

Aim: To assist the senior student in Human Performance Management in summarizing the experiences of the nearly completed undergraduate program, assessing future alternatives, and preparing resources for use in subsequent career, or in preparation for graduate study.
Goals: At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. state and write her or his personal philosophy and professional mission,
2. evaluate the professional preparation program she or he completed,
3. rate and profile her/his own professional competencies and formulate evaluative statements on personal strengths and weaknesses,
4. apply for employment or admission to graduate schools by utilizing a variety of tools and resources,
5. demonstrate organization and accessibility to her or his personal professional library,
6. display a student portfolio of collected works, projects, papers, and programs, and
7. perform commendably in an interview for employment or graduate school.
Requirements: Attendance and participation in each class session is essential. Timely completion of the various assignments in a quality fashion is expected. A 20% penalty will be assessed for each day beyond the due date.
Evaluation: Grading will be based upon 135 points possible. Points will be subjectively awarded to the various assignments as noted on the Topical Outline.

SENIOR SEMINAR ASSIGNMENTS
A. Write a one page summary of the principles that guide your life. Refer to page 5.
B. Write a one page summary of your values. Refer to page 6.
C. Summarize your philosophy of human performance management or athletic training on one page. Refer to pages 7 - 8.
D. Write a professional mission statement (½ to 1 page). Refer to pages 9 - 10 for directions.
E. Human Performance Management majors review the NASPE Standards for Programs for Preparing Undergraduate Students for Careers in Fitness ( pp. 11-19) or Sport Management (pp. 20-24), rate yourself on your competencies and include statements on spaces provided to support your evaluation.
F. Examine your professional image and skills by completing the Professional Attribute Profile (pp. 29-30). Follow the directions on the preceding page. Circle in black a number indicating where you started as a major. Circle in red where you are now as you finish your program of studies.
G. All students at WSU are required to evaluate their professional preparation in their major and minor. Using your "Program of Study", rate all the courses you have taken in your major (pp. 31-32). Include what you thought the course's "Potential Value" was (1-4), and its "Actual Contribution" (1-4). Then give "Recommendations" to improve the course. Each course should have a few lines for comments. You may need to photocopy several sheets to complete this assignment.
H-I. Write a cover letter, inquiry or application, and a resume'. See seminar manual pages 35-42. Use the Internet to find an actual job opportunity (pp. 47-49) and attach the job announcement to your resume'.
J-K. Obtain two letters of commendation and two letters of recommendation. See the dictionary for the definitions of commend and recommend to recognize the difference. Refer to page and submit all the materials describe to the references and to your file. Write thank-you notes to all four references and photocopy each note you have written and sent.
L. Prepare for a formal job interview (pp. 43-46). 1. Perform a videotaped formal interview and review of the tape, then write a thank-you note (p. 46) to the interviewer; or 2. Type answers to all 20 interview questions on pages 44-45, and write a thank-you note for your imaginary interview.
M. Create a Student Portfolio. Refer to manual.
N. Organize and catalog you professional library. Refer to manual.
O. Organize and index your course artifacts. Refer to manual.
