Metaphor is now accepting Literary, Visual Arts, and Music submissions year round. Submissions received must be done at the undergraduate level. Graduate students’ entries will not be accepted. Submissions must be received before the annual deadline will be held for consideration in the next publication. All works submitted must be original by the artist, and not previously published elsewhere. Music submissions must have one undergraduate songwriter or member of the band. NO COVERS. If a student’s work is accepted, Weber State Metaphor reserves first rights to the piece. (Students may submit these pieces elsewhere after Metaphor accepts or rejects them.) Musicians must sign an additional release form to be included on a compilation CD. Please leave the song title to be included blank. This information will be determined by Metaphor staff.
JUDGING OF PIECES
All entries will be judged as blind entries – names of the authors will be kept confidential until the preferred pieces are selected. Students will be notified by mail when the final decision has been made if they have enclosed a SASE. All judging decisions are final.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
There is no limit to the number of genres a student may submit to, but written pieces are limited to 6000 words and poetry to two pages. Please limit poetry, music, and visual arts submissions to FIVE. All literary submissions must be in 12 point Times New Roman font. Layout of works may be left to the author. Foreign language pieces will be accepted if accompanied by English translation as well. Each piece must have a different cover sheet. Contact details must be on cover sheet only. Do not include any identifying information on your submission or it will not be accepted. Title of work needs to be listed on every page of the manuscript, as well as page numbering if necessary. If necessary, “Works Cited” page should be included with the format used noted on the cover sheet. Please paperclip cover sheet to submission (no staples). Email an electronic submission in .rtf (for music and literature) or .jpeg (for visual arts) format to metaphor@weber.edu. Place all required pages and SASE in a manila envelope to protect against loss. Only ONE self-addressed, stamped envelope. You will be notified by mail if your submissions were accepted or rejected only if an envelope is included.
ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE ENTERED THIS WAY. NO EMAIL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Submissions not following guidelines are subject to rejection.
Please bring your submissions to EH 252 (Metaphor office) or EH 413 (English Department offices).
Be aware that the English department professors, secretaries, and staff are NOT responsible for deadlines, editing, or publication of submissions. Metaphor staff is made up of student volunteers and publication is paid for by student fees.
