This session is a panel discussion that explores the need and importance of campus engagement in the learning and development of students' personal and professional growth.

Brenda Marsteller Kowalewski

Brenda KBrenda Marsteller Kowalewski is a Presidential Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Community Engaged Learning at Weber State University. Kowalewski received a B.A. in Sociology from Hofstra University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Maryland at College Park. She has been at Weber State University for the last 20 years. Kowalewski has won multiple awards and national acclaim for her community engaged scholarly work and leadership in higher education. But more than anything she hopes students leave her classes and community engaged learning programs knowing how to be an actively engaged citizen.


 

 

Tara Peris

taraTara Peris-Caputo was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2003 she moved to Utah where she earned her bachelors degree in Political Science from Weber State University and her masters in Public Policy at the University of Utah. Currently Tara is the Interim Director of Student Involvement and Leadership and the Coordinator of Risk Management at WSU, and with anywhere between 190-220 registered student organizations on campus, things can be very busy and at times, risky. Tara currently resides in Roy, UT with her husband and baby, Tydus. In her free time Tara loves to go to the gym and enjoys watching the Food Channel.
