GEAR UP is a grant partnership between Weber State University and Ogden City Schools serving every 7th grade student attending Ogden junior high schools as a student cohort as they advance through the 12th grade.
Project Schools:
- Ben Lomond High School
- Ogden High School
- George Washington High School
- DaVinci Academy of Science and the Arts
Gaps/Goals:
Ogden City Schools has identified four specific gaps through the use of student data:
- Low student performance and poor college preparedness in core subject areas
- Low attendance and high drop-out rate
- Low graduation rate and low college enrollment/graduation rate
- Few opportunities for pro-social involvement
To close these gaps for our project students, GEAR UP has established five primary goals:
- Increase post-secondary preparation
- Increase the academic performance and attendance
- Increase high school graduation rate and post-secondary participation
- Increase students' and families' knowledge of post-secondary options, preparation and financing
- Increase the preparation of teachers and staff who serve the students
GEAR UP provides mentor and tutor support and academic and social opportunities to ensure every student will have the opportunity to achieve the dream of a college education.
