!!ANNOUNCEMENT!!
To Weber State University Faculty, Staff, Students and Surrounding Community:
As announced previously, Dr. Forrest C. Crawford has stepped down after more than a decade of dedicated and selfless service as Assistant to the President for Diversity. As a result, it has been the charge of President Charles Wight and an appointed Selection Committee to seek out a new Special Assistant for Diversity.
The Search Committee interviewed qualified and viable candidates for this position. After a time of deliberation and thought, the Committee forwarded their recommendations to President Wight for consideration. The President, who then had the task of making the final decision, interviewed these candidates.
On May 15, 2013, Adrienne Andrews was announced as the next Assistant to the President for Diversity at Weber State University. Her appointment will begin on July 1, 2013.

Adrienne, comes to us from the Weber State University Center for Diversity and Unity and LGBT Resources and will continue to work in that capacity as well. Her extensive background and dedication to diverse issues and students will help make a seamless transition in the Office of Diversity. Her many years of working with students, faculty, staff and community partners at WSU make her a valuable asset and leader. It is without any doubt that Adrienne will continue to foster an environment for diversity and inclusion in this new role.
Words cannot accurately express the gratitude and thanks that is given to Dr. Forrest C. Crawford as he leaves the position, who in reality has left an unchangeable and valuable imprint in the lives of countless students, faculty, and staff here at WSU, and for his years of work and service in making Weber State University a greater institution of higher learning. Thank you! And welcome Adrienne Andrews!
Dr. Forrest Crawford is stepping down from the position of Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, after serving in that capacity for over a decade and a half. His dedicated leadership has been invaluable in advancing the WSU Diversity Initiative begun in 1990. Thanks, in no small part to his efforts, Weber State University has made significant progress toward becoming a place where all members of the university community feel respected and encouraged to contribute their best. I want to thank Dr. Crawford both personally and on behalf of the university community.
We will begin immediately to select a new Special Assistant to the President for Diversity. This position reports directly to the President, and is actively involved with the President’s Council. Responsibilities include generating support and involvement for diversity and organizing and staffing university administrative bodies charged with responsibility for advancing the diversity initiative. We have carefully considered the importance of this position being filled by someone who understands and will be accepted by our university community, and have concluded that she or he should be a member of that community. Therefore, this will be a two-year, renewable, part-time appointment for a current university employee.
Candidates should be prepared to address their qualifications relative to the following selection critieria:
- Demonstrated sensitivity to multiculturalism, and commitment to the philosophy articulated in the WSU Inclusivity Statement (http://www.weber.edu/diversityoffice/inclusivity.html)
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with WSU faculty, staff and students
- Evidence of engagement and ability to work successfully with members of Northern Utah’s various minority communities
- Leadership potential
- Ability to advocate convincingly
- Ability to lead the development of a comprehensive Campus Diversity Plan.
- Ability to manage budgets
Education and previous service at WSU will be reviewed in light of the relationship the Assistant to the President will be expected to develop with the University community.
Consistent with the University’s commitment to affirmative action/equal opportunity, I hope the recruitment and selection process will proceed rapidly. Interested candidates must complete the online faculty/staff data form at jobs.weber.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=57514 and attach current resume and a cover letter that addresses their qualifications as they relate to the criteria listed above. Screening of applications will begin April 23rd and will continue until a suitable candidate is selected.
Note: This position is available to current WSU employees only. Due to the time demands of this position, applications will only be accepted from candidates currently in exempt positions as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
