Spring 2016 - Speech Showcase Finalists

Speech Showcase Class Representatives,
Thank you again for the fantastic presentations that each of you gave on Selection Saturday.  You all did an outstanding job and we are grateful to each of you for your preparation and participation.

Please remember that each of you will be honored and recognized at the Speech Showcase onWednesday Evening, April 13th at 7pm.  

It will be just one hour long.  Also remember to arrive no later than 6:30pm that evening for photos and wear your Sunday best (i.e., Suits, Ties, Dresses).

The Showcase will be held in the same auditorium as Selection Saturday (EH229).  In order for you to receive your certificate and award you must attend the Speech Showcase on Wednesday Evening.  Please confirm with Brent Warnock that you will be attending the Showcase by email ASAP.  Given the high number of incredible presentations the Selection Committee requested that there be Six (6) Finalists who speak at the Speech Showcase this semester rather than the traditional Five (5).

In no particular order the Six (6) Finalists who will be speaking at the Spring 2016 - Speech Showcase are:

          Colt Florence – Negatives Effects of Social Media
          Marin Tarbox – Discrimination of Children of LGBT Couples
          Mike Fifer – The Importance of Recycling
          Tony Villalba – Utah Paradox – Happy and Sad

The Signpost Wins General Excellence Award

The Signpost won the award for General Excellence at the 2015 Utah Press Association competition. Signpost staffers won nine first-place awards and placed in 18 categories to earn this honor.

Debate Keeps Conference Streak Alive

Weber State Debate won the conference title at the Cross-Examination Debate Association's national tournament for the fourth year in a row. The team of Misty Tippets and Jordan Hendricks made the Elite Eight.

Heath named Utah PR Student of the Year

Shaquille Heath was named the 2015 Utah PR Student of the Year in the competition sponsored by the Utah Public Relations Society Association. This is the fifth year in a row WSU students have won this award.

Speech Showcase Spotlights Public Address

The Speech Showcase was hosted on April 16 to a full house in Elizabeth Hall's auditorium. This event recognized the best speeches from Comm. 1020 Public Speaking classes in the Spring Semester.
