Catalog Description of CIL Exams

NTM TA 1501 - Word Processing Competency Exam

The computer competency exam for this course is a hands-on examination verifying a student’s skills at using word processing software.  Practice materials are available on this web site under Practice Problems (a link at the top of the page or from the link at the bottom of this paragraph) for studying the competencies covered on the test.  The one-hour exam must be completed during the semester registered.  Two repeats of the exam may be taken during the semester with an additional fee charged.  The grade for the course is credit/no credit.  All exams are given in room 311 of Elizabeth Hall during regular lab hours (hours vary per semester).  Check note on lab door for lab hours.  Link to WordPractice Problems.

NTM TB 1502 - OS/Presentations/E-mail Competency Exam

The computer competency exam for this course is a hands-on examination verifying a student’s skills at using Microcomputers with emphasis on: E-mail, Operating Systems, and Electronic Presentations.  Practice materials are available on this web site under Practice Problems (a link at the top of the page or from the link at the bottom of this paragraph) for studying the competencies covered on the test.  The one-hour exam must be completed during the semester registered.  Two repeats of the exam may be taken during the semester with an additional fee charged.  The grade for the course is credit/no credit.  All exams are given in room 311 of Elizabeth Hall during regular lab hours (hours vary per semester).  Check note on lab door for lab hours.  Link to OS/WIN/PP Practice Problems.

NTM TC 1503 - Spreadsheets Competency Exam

NTM TD 1504 - Information Literacy Competency Exam (library skills)

The computer competency exam verifies a student’s Information Literacy Competency.  Web tutorials are available for studying to study for this exam at their own pace.  Sample questions, a tutorial, and a practice test are available from this web site (a link at the top of the page or from the link at the bottom of this paragraph). Students may also request assistance with studying for this exam at the library reference desk.  The one-hour exam must be completed during the semester registered.  Two repeats of the exam may be taken during the semester with an additional fee charged.  The grade for the course is credit/no credit.  All exams are given in room 311 of Elizabeth Hall during regular lab hours (hours vary per semester).  Check note on lab door for lab hours.  Link to Information Literacy Tutorial and Practice Test.

General Information for all Tests

  • Students must register for each 1/2 credit exam before taking the exam.  Register for the test at the beginning of the semester
  • The tests are given in Elizabeth Hall, room 311 during regular lab hours - lab hours are posted on the door
    • Elizabeth Hall is located on the north east end of campus, just west of the Bell Tower and north of the Union Building
  • The credit or no credit tests are taken on Chitester - file upload for the NTM 1501, 1502, and 1503 and a true/false and multiple choice test for 1504
  • Chitester will show your grade as 0 until the test is actually graded - when it will change to a percentage
  • 73 % or above is needed to pass
  • Tests are all walk in testing - no appointment needed
  • No Online, book, notes or other resources may be used during these exams.
  • Come at least one hour prior to lab closing to take a test
  • No tests are handed out after the last hour - prior to closing
  • If you do not pass the test after three tries you can register to take the classes or tests another semester
  • DO NOT wait until the last week - before finals - to take a test
  • Take the tests early in the semester
  • The NTM lab uses the current version of the Microsoft Office applications for testing
  • Testing is available on a PC or MAC

Grades

  • Grades can be found on the online Canvas system
  • 73 % or above is needed to pass
  • Chitester will show your grade as 0 until the test is actually graded - when it will change to a percentage
