Department of Child & Family Studies

The Department of Child and Family Studies offers the tools you need for a successful career working with families and children. Along with a curriculum geared toward your career goals, we have a diverse faculty, friendly and supportive staff and active student organization.
 

Early Childhood

Learn the principles and theories of educating young children through developmentally appropriate practices. Graduates go on to a wide range of careers in child care licensing, social services, preschools and more.

We offer an associate's degree and bachelor's degree in early childhood, along with a minor in child development.

Family Studies

Our Family Studies program has led the way for developing national standards for family life educators. Courses, offered at either WSU’s Ogden or Davis campus, provide you with a strong foundation for employment and/or graduate study.

With a bachelor’s degree in family studies, you will be eligible to apply for national certification as a provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE).

Early Childhood Education

Take your first step toward a career teaching children from infancy through 8 years of age. The placement rate for our Early Childhood Education bachelor's degree graduates is nearly 100 percent. 

Along with our bachelor's degree, you have the option of adding elementary education to your degree program to further your career opportunities.

Melba S. Lehner Children's School

The Melba S. Lehner Children's School, located in the McKay Education Building on the Ogden campus of Weber State University provides quality care and education for young children from the surrounding communities.

The Children's School serves as a training lab for students majoring in early childhood and early childhood education.
