Head Start is a community program for lower income preschool children and their families. Our goal is to prepare the children for elementary school by helping them gain valuable learning skills that will give them a head start and benefit them throughout their school career. At Head Start students volunteer in the classrooms, and assist with the Fatherhood Initiative, and Literacy Programs. Children in Head Start are invited to Weber State University for field trips to develop their awareness of the college campus in their community. Student volunteers engaged in this program become more aware of education programs for children in lower income areas, gain exposure to the classroom, and have the opportunity to interact directly with preschool aged children.
Some of the focus areas of Head Start are:
- Child health/ development services
- Education and early childhood development
- Child health and safety
- Child nutrition
- Child mental health
- Family partnerships
