Alexis Marquez — Alexis Marquez is a first generation 2016 Weber State University (WSU) graduate. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in Public Relations with an emphasis in Marketing. Marquez was involved on campus by holding multiple offices in student government, volunteering through the Center for Community Engaged Learning and participating in student clubs and organizations. She served two internships on campus with the WSU Chief Diversity Officer and the Walker Institute of Politics & Public Service. She also interned for the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s Office and, in Washington, D.C., at Family Health International 360, a nonprofit human development organization.
Marquez is working as a bilingual teacher at Doxey Elementary’s After School Program. She is also a volunteer at the Davis Community Learning Center teaching English as a second language. Marquez has been accepted into the Peace Corps and selected to serve in the Dominican Republic as a Primary Literacy Promoter in spring 2017. After completing her two-year service, Marquez plans on attending graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in international development with an emphasis in education. Her goal is to help impoverished women and children around the world gain access to education.
