VITA -- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.  The program is designed by the IRS to provide tax preparation for those that do not know how to prepare their own return and do not wish to pay to have their return done.  It is a terrific opportunity for you to give back to the community and to add to your tax preparation knowledge with real-life experience.

Training will be provided for those who are interested in volunteering, so taking a tax class currently or in the past is not necessary.  Anyone that would like to volunteer is welcome!

We are very excited to host two VITA sites to help people file their 2012 tax returns: one at Weber's main campus and one at the Davis campus. This year the Davis site is open from February 1st to March 9th and the Ogden site will soon to be announced. The site times are:

Ogden Campus: (Ogden Campus times have yet to be announced)
Wednesday evenings from 4:30 - 7:30 pm
Thursday mornings from 10:30am - 1:30 pm

Davis Campus: (Room 106)
Friday evenings from 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Saturday mornings from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

You are welcome to volunteer for one time frame a week, or more as your schedule will allow.  If you are an Beta Alpha Psi initiate looking to get your 40 hours this is a terrific way to accumulate them!

The first essential introductory meeting was January 16, 2013 Wednesday at 12:45 Room 223 of the Wattis Building, Weber Ogden Campus. If you are interested in volunteering for VITA and missed the introductory meeting please come to the Accounting & Taxation office and sign up to let us know your intent as soon as possible, then come to one of the following meetings to get the necessary information for volunteering:

Ogden Campus:  Wednesday January 23 from 1:00-3:00 in WB 102
Davis Campus:  Thursday, January 24 from 1:00-3:00 in Davis 222

Next Meeting:  Friday at 9:30 am, Lab in room 223 of the Wattis Business Building to help students who are still certifying.
