Automotive Service Technology

ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE (A.A.S.)

 Program Prerequisite

  •  An interview with the program coordinator or advisor.

  • Sponsorship in an appropriate dealership or shop.
  • A basic set of hand tools.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proof of insurability - Drivers Record.
  • Some employers require drug testing.

Grade Requirements: An overall GPA of 2.00 or "C."

 

Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 63 credit hours is required.

 

Advisement

Automotive Service students should meet each semester with the program coordinator or faculty advisor for their specific option for advisement. Call 801-626-6579 for more information or to schedule an appointment.   (Also refer to the Department Advisor Referral List.)

 

Admission Requirements

Declare your program of study and meet with your specific program coordinator or advisor.

Assessment Requirements: Students will be required to complete certain assessment instruments as part of the overall requirements for receiving their associate's degree.  Please see the program coordinator or your advisor or your department for specific information regarding assessment.

 

National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification Requirement

  • Automotive Service students (except Collision Repair and HD Truck) are required to take all eight automotive ASE exams (A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, and A8).  The student must pass at least four of the eight exams to qualify for graduation.   
  • Collision repair students must take five ASE collision repair and refinish exams (B2, B3, B4, B5, and B6).  The student must pass at least three of the five exams to qualify for graduation.
  • HD Truck students are required to take all eight Medium/Heavy Duty Truck ASE exams (T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, and T8).  The student must pass at least four of the eight exams to qualify for graduation.   

See www.asecert.org for testing information.  ASE exam fees are included in the student fees for each course.  Exams will be taken twice per year at the end of each semester.

New students will be also required to obtain certain industry certifications as part of the overall requirements for receiving their associate's degree. Certification assessments include:
General Education

Refer to General Requirements for Associate of Applied Science requirements. The following general education courses are required for this degree: CHEM PS1010 (3) or CHEM PS/SI1110 (5), COMM HU2110 (3), and a Social Science course (3). Computer Literacy as defined in this catalog is also required for the A.A.S. degree.
