The twenty-first annual Weber State University Automotive Contest (written portion) was held on Thursday December 7, 2006 at 9:00 a.m.  There were approximately 600 participants from 54 schools, from 5 states this year (Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada & Wyoming).  The students took a 50 question test which coveres five automotive ASE areas.

The Skills/Hands-on portion of the contest was February 1, 2007.

A teacher's meeting was be held in TE-214 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the upcoming “Educational Trip” to California and misc. items. 

Congratulations to the Blackfoot High School (Blackfoot Idaho) students for receiving the highest test scores.

Approximately 453 students took the written test at Weber State University, with another 200 taking a proctored test in locations outside a 200 mile radius of WSU.

 

There were new vehicles from our DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, Honda, and Toyota training programs were on display for the students to see.

The 2000 Dodge Viper V-10 and a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette were favorites of the students. 

This year a rare Ford GT-40 was on display - Thank you Steve Keller!

 

Students enjoyed seeing a 1970 Corvette being worked on in the paint booth of our Collision Repair program.

 

The winners of the written contest were announced at the awards ceremony in the Union Gallery. 

The following twenty-four schools qualified for the Skills/Hands-on portion of the contest February 1, 2007.  Two students will be selected by their teacher to compete for a set of tools, a one year tuition waiver scholarship from Weber State University, and the chance for their school to win a late model car.  They also qualify to participate in the “Educational Trip” to California, which will be Febuary 1 - 11, 2007.
