WSU Written Contest 2005 - 2006

The twentieth annual Weber State University Automotive Contest (written portion) was held on Thursday December 8, 2005 at 9:00 a.m.  There were nearly 600 participants from 54 schools, from 5 states this year (Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada & Wyoming).  The students took a 50 question test which covered six automotive ASE areas.

A teacher's meeting was held in TE-214 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the upcoming “Educational Trip” to California and misc. items.

Congratulations to Ryan Brimball from the Layton DATC received the highest test score of 86%.


There was a career information session

The 2000 Dodge Viper and the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette were attention grabbers.

DaimlerChrysler CAP vehicles with HEMI engines were popular.

 

A Honda Civic Natural Gas Powered vehicle from the Honda PACT program was displayed.

Toyota T-TEN program vehicles were on display.

A Hybrid Toyota Prius and Hybrid Honda Civic were on display in the Lobby.

General Motors ASEP program vehicles were also on display.

481 students took the written test over 2-hour period at Weber State University.  Another 120 students (outside a 200 mile radius) took the text by proxy.

The winners of the written contest were announced in an awards ceremony at the Shepherd Union building at 12:30 p.m.


The following twenty-four schools qualified for the Skills/Hands-on portion of the contest.  Two students were selected by their teacher to compete for a set of tools, a one year tuition waiver scholarship from Weber State University, and the chance for their school to win a late model car.  They also qualified to participate in the “Educational Trip” to California, which was Febuary 8 - 12, 2006.
