OGDEN, Utah - The Weber State University Department of Visual Arts will present "Yida Wang: Works on Paper," an exhibition on display Nov. 10 through Jan. 10, 2004, in the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery of the Ethel Wattis Kimball Visual Arts Center.
The artist will deliver a public lecture at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Kimball Visual Art Center's Lindquist Lecture Hall. A reception will be held Nov. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Wang is celebrated for her rich charcoal and graphic drawing, as well as her mixed-media constructions. Reflecting on her Chinese past and Western present, she creates compelling images from a variety of motifs, some precisely rendered while other elements are only fragmentary inclusions.
Wang is the recipient of the seventh Catherine E.B. Cox Award for the Visual Arts, 2002. Her works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the United States and abroad, as well as in various public and private collections.
Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibition is free to the public. For more information or to arrange a preview, contact gallery director Scott Knauer at 801-626-6420.
Grants from the Browning Lead Trust, the Utah Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts Washington, D.C., and the Utah Office of Museum Services helped to support this exhibit.
