OGDEN, Utah – Santa Claus and his reindeer are teaming up with the Weber State University Bookstore for the second annual “Fill the Sleigh” donation drive event on Dec. 8, from 1 to 7 p.m.
The charitable event will kick off the holiday season while collecting donated items Catholic Community Services needs this year, including personal hygiene products, paper towels, toilet tissue, diapers, baby wipes, cleaning supplies, dry pet food, dry laundry detergent, and hygiene items.
“Our main goal for this event is to work with a local charity that needed, and would receive, the support of the community,” event organizer Amber Robson said. “It’s a great opportunity for people to enjoy a fun holiday event and be involved with helping those in need.”
Last year’s inaugural event gathered 650 pounds of needed items. Organizers hope to top that amount in 2010.
Santa Claus — taking a much-needed break from holiday preparations — will greet children in the bookstore, while several of his reindeer will be on display outside of the Shepherd Union Building at the northwest entrance.
Volunteers from WSU’s Community Involvement Center’s Americorps program will help staff the event, which is free and open to the public.
Activities will include fun “reindeer games” like photo frame and ornament decoration, holiday-themed games and gift ideas.
Free parking will be available on campus.
