For more information, contact Student Activities at 801-626-6349. *** OGDEN, Utah – Roger McGuinn, a former guitarist and vocalist for the 1960s band the Byrds, will speak at Weber State University on Dec. 6 at noon in the Shepherd Union Ballroom. In 1965 the Byrds, which consisted of band members Gene Clark, Michael Clarke, David Crosby, Chris Hillman and McGuinn, signed a record deal with Columbia Records. The group went on to release 14 albums over the next eight years, including several top-40 hits like "Sweetheart of the Rodeo." In 1973 McGuinn left the group in pursuit of a solo career and released five solo albums. He later returned to his folk roots and began touring as a solo acoustic performer in 1981. In addition to McGuinn's convocation, he will perform concerts on Dec. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Val A. Browning Center Allred Theater. The convocation is free and open to the community. Tickets to the concerts are $5 with a WSU ID, or $10 without it, and are available for purchase by calling 801-626-8500 or visiting weberstatetickets.com.
