Historian to Offer New Perspective on American West Violence

November 14, 2006

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University's Critchlow Lecture Series will feature John Mack Faragher, professor of American studies at Yale University, who will present "A New Look at Violence in the American West," on Nov. 28 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lindquist Alumni Center.

Faragher has taught at Yale for 13 years and has written numerous books on frontier culture. In his upcoming lecture he will discuss how violence in the American West has not been exaggerated, as many historians believe. He takes a new approach to the history of violence in the American West, one that offers new explanations for the growth and perpetuation of a violent frontier culture.

The presentation is free to the public.

The Critchlow Lecture is endowed by William Critchlow III for historical lectures on the American West.
