Zoology Department Promotes Rhino Awareness

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University’s Department of Zoology will sponsor the Respect and Protect: Rhino Art Auction Nov. 14-16 to help raise awareness and support for the world’s endangered rhinoceros species.

Original works of art by WSU and Farr West Elementary students, and other local artists, will be on display in the Shepherd Union Art Gallery as part of a silent auction. The auction will culminate with a reception on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.

The illegal poaching and habitat degradation of rhinos have decimated their populations across Africa and Southern Asia. The event was organized by zoology students as a civic engagement project.

All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the International Rhino Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of rhinos. The artwork will remain on display through Nov. 30.
