Award Winning History Professor to Discuss the Mormon Struggle for Whiteness

October 9, 2012

The Weber Historical Society will present “Black, White and Mormon: Race and the Mormon Struggle for Whiteness,” Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Weber State University Alumni Center as part of its fall 2012 lecture series.

The lecture will feature Paul Reeve, associate professor of history at the University of Utah. His lecture explores how outsiders perceived Mormons in the 19th century, denigrating them as "white slaves," "facilitators of racial contamination" and "Mormon coons."

The lecture is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by William Critchlow, WSU’s Department of History,  the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and the Alumni Association.
